Understanding not required

There are so many things in this world that we fail to understand, but the desire to understand, to reason and wrap our mind around it doesn’t leave.

The spirit realm is no different.

So many things biblically speaking fail to fall inside of the logical structure we’ve built.

But really- this should reassure us.

What good is a God we can figure out?

Truly.

Think of the relief a child has in the arms of their parent, knowing that the parent has figured out their next meal, their shelter, and their safety. The child doesn’t have to understand all the steps necessary to be provided for - it just knows there is provision because their parent is in control.

I was talking with my 7 year old son the other night before bed. He asked me about the Trinity, how was it 3 in 1? Did they share power? Who has the most authority? Who is in heaven and seated?

To be honest I was shocked at his questions. They were deep.

And if I’m being transparent these type of questions plagued my mind until I was in my early 20’s. Until the lord dropped revelation in my spirit.

Actually I’m excited to share with you how the Holy Spirit asked for me to explain it to my son. But before I go there let’s park in the logic department for a moment.

There is such a freedom in releasing yourself from the need to understand.

The word tells us that Gods ways are far above our ways, and His thoughts are far above our thoughts.

Which plainly means that we couldn’t understand it even if we tried.

Today my 5 year old, Jesse, asked me the difference in regular TV stations, and cable TV stations.

Which I replied “I don’t know how to explain the difference to you Jesse, they are just different. Trust me”

I couldn’t even begin to explain to him the world in which I grew up, with knobs on the square TV sets, rabbit ear antennas and Saturday morning cartoons. And how that compared to his world of on-demand movies without commercial breaks.

I think God is like that with us sometimes.

We stomp our foot demanding reasoning and the Lord is looking at us saying I couldn’t explain it to you even if I tried. Just trust me.

So then the hurdle in our faith isn’t truly understanding. Because we will never understand God in our finite human mind. But really it boils down to trust.

Do you trust him?

Have you searched the scriptures and uncovered His heart? Have you wrestled to grasp the depths of His love and mercy? His grace that renews morning by morning?

Because when you begin to see His heart, you realize that in His arms - you are as safe as a child falling into the arms of their parent.

And I know some of our experiences with our parents are not exactly giving “safe & peaceful” vibes. But hear me when I tell you that we are flawed humans living in a sin cursed world.

Our Heavenly Father is not affected by that.

He is perfect, good and never failing.

He doesn’t change His mind when it’s more convenient for Him.

His words are true.

Even when we don’t understand how, why or when.

So go back to the last thing He told you, even if you don’t understand. And take Him at His word. Find comfort in knowing that God is bigger than you are, and he’s working out situations you don’t even know about.

You can trust him.

Oh- and the revelation the Holy Spirit whispered to me about explaining the Trinity to my son …

He said tell him I am like water.

Water that you drink, ice which is frozen water, and steam which is also water.

All three are water, just in different forms.

Just like me. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Three in One.

My mind was blown at this complex theology explained in a way my child could understand. And not only didn’t my 7 year old understand, but my 5 year old did as well.

There are some areas that the Holy Spirit breathes fresh revelation and light bulbs come on. But there are other things that we must blindly trust through.

However it isn’t really blind, is it?

He has never failed us yet.

All He is asking you to do, is take Him at His word.

It’s okay friend, you can trust Him.

Chat Soon,

Crystal K
